Over forty years, we have heard some version of the same question from nearly every table in the house: now that we’re out this way, where else should we go? It is usually asked between courses, half out of curiosity and half because Bucks County has a way of making people want to see more of it.
We have never had one good answer. We have a dozen.
Tabora Farm & Orchard, Chalfont
An orchard down the road, a farm that has stayed in one family for generations, a workshop where things are still made by hand the way they were a century ago. What follows is a short list of the ones we find ourselves recommending most.
| |
“Go see the orchard first, then come see us for dinner.”
|
None of these are ours, and none of them need to be. They are simply good neighbors, and a Bucks County afternoon spent among them is one that ends well here.

Churchville Nature Center
Just down the road from us, sixty-five acres of preserve beside the Churchville Reservoir, laced with two miles of trails. Opened in 1964 as the county’s first nature center, it is still the kind of place where a short walk turns into most of an afternoon.

Snipes Farm & Education Center
Twelve generations of one family, descended from William Penn’s first Quaker settlers, have kept this land in Morrisville, and they have lived on the present farm since 1808. Each October the gates open a little wider, beginning with a Farm Harvest Tour on Saturday, October 3rd.

Tabora Farm & Orchard
Caleb and Patricia Torrice have run this Chalfont farm market, bakery, deli, and country store since 2008, with pick-your-own fields and orchards through the seasons. It is the kind of stop where you go for a bag of apples and come home with lunch and a pie for later.

Tyler State Park
Before it was a park, this stretch along the Neshaminy Creek in Newtown was a patchwork of family farms. It opened in May of 1974 as the 1,711-acre park we know today, and the old farm roads are still there to walk.

Byers’ Choice
It started in the late 1960s, when Joyce Byers made her own Carolers and stood the first ones on the family’s dining room table. The family still oversees the company in Chalfont, where a team of around forty artisans sculpt, paint, and dress every Caroler by hand.

Visit Bucks County
Some of what makes an evening at the Inn worth planning starts long before you sit down — a drive past the orchards, a stop at a farm stand, an afternoon in one of the little towns that make Bucks County what it is. Visit Bucks County keeps a running list of what’s blooming, what’s open, and what’s worth the detour, season by season.
